Confirmation Gifts

Confirmation is a rite of initiation into the church practiced in many different Christian Churches. During confirmation a person is anointed, as if they have been given the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. Confirmation normally accepts an individual into full membership of the Church, but this varies between Churches. In the Roman Catholic Church, an individual is welcomed into the Church on baptism, but confirmation brings the bond between person and church even closer. Confirmation normally occurs late on in childhood, or in early adolescence. Confirmation, sometimes referred to as Chrismation, is one of the sacraments which Christ said would confer sanctifying grace and bless upon those being confirmed a closer connection to God. It is common in many parts of the world, for one to receive a confirmation name when being confirmed into the Church. This could involve taking a saints name, as Zoe Laboure did, taking on the name Catherine Laboure, before going on to be visited by the Blessed Virgin Mary, and discovering the miraculous medal.
